Attire | Mai's wears a sleeveless, skimpy black and red outfit or tunic. The costume is held at her waist by a red waistband, often with long, trailing decorative tails, leading down to a loin cloth with a thong underneath. And grayish black long gloves going up both her arms. Mai's footwear is a pair of soft-soled long decorative black ninja tabi. Her costume is designed to give her maximum flexibility and movement while providing her some protection, anonymity, and stealth. The material is a thick insulating cloth, protecting her from cold and wet, while being fire retardant. It provides little damage protection from weapons or blows however does provide good protection from energy damage.

Overall Personality | Mai is a very happy girl with every girl's dream: get married with her prince charming. Although her preppy fighting persona suggests otherwise, Mai is actually a traditional and ideal Japanese beauty. Mai exudes confidence with a lot of her strength reflected in the way she can practically kill a man with her eyes alone or have them swoon from a simple seductive sideways glance. She is also quite sassy with a rapier wit and a snicker that let’s you know she’s having the last laugh. Brash young woman, Mai thinks high of herself because of her abilities. Mai has a gentle nature despite being a incredibly strong and talented fighter trained by her grandfather. Mai is an intellectual and strong minded young woman who escapes easy classification. Mai can be a very sensitive woman. She is also a very good cook. Mai is also very caring and helps whenever she can. Despite her friendly attitude, she dislikes it when people treat others, especially kittens, badly, which often prompts her to severely beat that person, even to the point of going into a berserker state. History | Mai Shiranui is the granddaughter of Hanzo Shiranui, master of ninjitsu and Koppo-ken. Her grandfather trained her like a lost puppy he had found on the street. Mai never had the chance to be a normal girl she wanted to be. She's been the elder of the "Shiranui Dojo" that her grand father owns since childhood. Which is in Mount Hakuria, Ashimaki. Although, due to her training, she would accidentally throw people who try to sneak up behind her; a trait that her grandfather claims to be unintentional on her part.
While she was in school she didn't have any friends because she stood out to much, implying that others were jealous of her. When she is not fighting and in usual attire she wear fake glasses in an effort to moderate her appearance. Without her glasses her looks always get her special treatment from men and admiration of other women as well their envy.
A few years passed and her grandfather died. She was completely devastated. Mai had no one else in her life but the people who lived in her grandfather's dojo, which is know hers. He left the dojo in her name in his will. Mai kept his glasses that he wore around the dojo in remembrance of him.
