Jinx walks into the Tower's main living room to fix herself some breakfast. Today's a bad day, she knew. She always had to be careful in days like this. Anything she touched was in danger of breaking.
Bread in the toaster, milk in the bowl, juice in her cup. So far, everything was good. As long as she wasn't distracted, nothing bad would happen. Just then a flying game controller hits her on the head and falls into her cup, short-circuiting and causing the juice to explode in her face.
Moments later the toaster pops out, burnt like charcoal. Her eyes turn thin as her patience, but she tries to remain calm and wipes away the juice from her pale face. She then walks out the door, not a word said. A few concerned eyes followed her out. "Forget breakfast" she whispered to herself.
Jinx has been getting along well with the Titans since her arrival, all except for Raven. "She just has issues trusting new members" the echo of Beast Boy's words rung in her head, "She'll warm up to you eventually". Heading outside, she makes her way to the training obstacle course, hoping to vent off some of this negative energy. Plus, she could use the practice. Being a good guy wasn't an easy thing to get used to.
"You need to control your powers" whispered the memories of a familiar blue voice. Raven's powers were always under control thanks to her meditation, but hers were, by their very nature, chaotic. "You don't know anything about my powers" she remembered saying. She was right.
Jinx's powers are more complicated than what people think. Unlike most Titan's powers, hers work in a very inverse manner. The trick to her magic is that it does the opposite of what she wants to happen. If she wishes for tails, her magic will make it always land in heads. If she wishes for the ground not to break, it will. Always antagonizing her.
In the Hive academy, she learned how to use this to her advantage and began to think inversely in order to align her powers with her motives. She could think "I hope that fan does not suddenly fall on those people" and violet sparks of magic would strike the fan, and make it do just that.
This means that, though she was a villain, she was always thinking positive thoughts. She always wished for good, and caused bad. And so deep down she was/is a good person.
After slicing up a few boulders, and leaving the course in worse shape than Terra had, back in the day, she sighs and sits down on a nearby boulder that escaped her destruction. Her thought turn to Flash. "What do I do?" she thought to herself.
She was afraid to let Flash any closer to her. Nothing in life had ever turned out right for her; this would be no different. Sooner or later her mind would slip, and she'd let it wander into a bliss - wishing the best of fortune on her beloved yellow friend - only to cause destruction on him with her cursed powers.
Her life was jinxed. She was Jinx.
A thin trail of liquid crystal ran down her cheek..
