Trying to Gain Control (open)

[Kasumi]

Kasumi exhaled out of her mouth to blow a piece of her hair out of her face. Such a pretty forest.. I'd hate to accidentally burn it.. But the meadow is pretty too... Still, I have to practice somewhere and I can definitely not practice in or near the city.. She thought this over for a minute, but decided she would practice here. Walking into the meadow, she looked around to make sure no one was there. She was relieved to not see anyone and so began. Gotta learn to control my power and now would be a good time since I have nothing to do.. Well, when do I ever have anything to do?

Kasumi's hands then lit up with fire. It'd be easier with targets, but whatever... The majority of the fire went out and now only her fingertips glowed with the flames. Lifting them to her shoulders, she waved them quickly out in front of her and out went ten little spears of fire, hitting a tree. Luckily, the tree didn't catch fire. Hmph.. Would've been more effective if it was a person.. Her hands lit up with fire again, but this time she made it like a large whip at first, then made it into two large fists. This trick was difficult for her to use and unfortunately took a lot of energy, but it was pretty powerful. Moving her right arm back, making the flame hand move with it, she swung it forward and grabbed a tree, tearing it from the ground. It then went up into flames and soon it began to rain ashes. The bad thing was, she was beginning to reach her limits.

Kasumi then slapped the hands together, making it one huge flame. Separating it, she made a circle around herself, now just playing with the fire. After that, she shaped it into a wolf looking as if it was howling and to make it more life-like-ish, she howled in its place. When she made the wolf shape, she had reached her limit and she knew it, she could feel it, yet didn't put her flames away. She was going to push herself. Her flames then began to get bigger, bigger than they were when she put her fire hands together and it was beginning to get harder to contain it. Her eyes then lit up with flames themselves. Often when she lost control they would do this, but it would never cause damage to her eyes.

A huge circle of flames then surrounded Kasumi and was edging towards the forest. Her eyes widened as she realized that and she quickly lifted her hands as another orange substance emanated from them. She was using her Sun Power. Gotta protect the forest! Her sun power made a larger circle around the flames and the fire filled it quickly. Lucky for her she couldn't get hurt by fire. Inside the circle, she fell to her knees and grabbed her head, closing her flame-eyed eyes tightly. "Gotta stop the fire... Gain..Control...!" She clenched her teeth and her nails were digging in her head as the flames started to lower and soon disappeared. Sweat ran down her face as the shield also dispersed and her eyes opened, turning back to normal. Her hands fell in front of her and she panted, but smiled. I, did it! I, stopped the fire..! Wiith that thought, she fell to the ground.

Kerri was sleeping up in a tree on the edge of the meadow. Having nowhere to live or sleep kind of sucked. Okay not kind of, it sucked a lot. Since she had escaped from the lab a month ago she had been sleeping in various comfortable tree and park benches and the occasional top of a building. Okay so they weren’t so comfortable but it was better than being in a cage hooked up to wires all the time.

Kerri jolted up from her sleep when she felt a sudden surge of heat, a fire. She knew fire, it was her element after all. She turned her head toward the widow and saw a girl practicing, she apparently had a fire ability as well, but she was having a hard time controlling it. She must be practicing. Kerri thought. She swung her legs over the edge of the branch to watch her.

At one point the girl almost burned the forest down, Kerri had been prepared to fly up and try to control the flames herself but some the girl stopped then. She was impressed. She jumped down from the tree and started clapping. She walked towards the girl.

She smiled at the girl, still clapping as she walked over to her. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to frighten you. Just, that was very impressive. I have Pyrokinesis, so not many other people who handle fire impress me.” She said very matter-o-factly but polite to the girl.

The experiment girl smiled at the other, her strange golden eyes shining with happiness. “May I ask your name?” Kerri asked politely, she was quite curious to learn the name of someone who had such great potential.

Kasumi was still on the ground as her breathing became more normal. She was tired and felt like just sleeping there on the meadow she ended up burning. Well, damn. I liked this meadow. One spot is nothing, but the whole thing is just too much.. Great, hope no nature freaks saw that otherwise they're probably gonna raise some hell for me.. Shoot, I didn't think this through very well, I should've probably practiced in the desert-like place where I live, that would've been a better place, nothing can burn. Well, nothing as beautiful as this meadow was.. Rah.. She sighed and her eyes began to droop down.

I should practice that more often so it doesn't end up being a one-time fling.. If I can control my powers, could I return home? Or would I be untrusted and hated still? Could I be allowed to go back to the towns I was banished from? Could I, get a second chance? To do things the right way? No, humans aren't forgiving, not like that. No matter how much I dislike it, I'm banished, and nothing will change that, I know it. Yet, it doesn't matter, I have everything I need in Jump, I don't need to-

Kasumi jumped up as she suddenly heard clapping and saw a girl with a black lolita dress on with blond hair and gold eyes walking towards her. She listened as the girl spoke to her and just blinked at her. She sat down and crossed her legs as she looked at her. "Impress? So I impress you, huh? What's so impressive about not controlling your powers? I could've burnt down the whole forest, even the city..." How long has she been here, anyway? Was she here the whole time? I didn't see her or catch her scent..

Kasumi jumped slightly as the girl asked her name, catching her a bit off guard. "Me? Oh, I'm Kasumi Kaji.. Pleasure to meet you..." She trailed off so the girl could tell her her name. Her eyes seem bright.. Why is she so happy? Not that it's a bad thing or anything.. Maybe she doesn't care that I just burnt an innocent meadow down.. Well, that's sort of good, that means she isn't one of those nature freaks who obsess over it.. I think..

Kerri shook her head, “No no, your powers are very impressive and with a little more practice with them you really could be unstoppable.” She complemented. Kerri was very impressed with this girls ability with fire. If she worked hard she could be very, very powerful. But power after all is only useful if it can be controlled.

She realized as the girl, Kasumi implied that she wanted to know her name that she had completely forgotten to introduce herself. “My name is Kerri, I’m also known as experiment 5379 but I like being called Kerri and the pleasure is mine.” Kerri bowed her head slightly; long strands of hair feel in her face.

“Oh, and I’m sorry if I frightened you, I wasn’t spying. I had been sleeping in a tree over there,” she pointed to the edge of the meadow. “And I woke up when I felt the heat from the fire.” Kerri smiled at Kasumi hoping the fact the she had been sleeping in a tree didn’t freak her out.

Kasumi looked at the girl, a bit astonished. No one's told me that before.. "Really...? Hm, well, I certainly don't think so, my fire is useless, I can't control it, so I don't use it, even when I need it most. There are rare times when I will, but not often.." She said as she looked down at her palm and closed it in a fist and opened it back up. My fire is nothing but destructive, nothing more. There's no way it could be powerful.. Well, it's powerful enough to destroy cities and kill innocent people. Hmph..

Kasumi looked back up. "So, you are also another experiment? Heh, there seems to be a lot nowadays, you're the third one I've met. I'll just call you Kerri, if you don't mind." She said as she gave her a slight smile. Kerri then bowed and her hair fell in her face. Reaching over and picking a strand, she ran her hand down it. "You're hair is pretty, and soft... I'm kinda envying it, but I don't think blond hair would fit me well, so I'll just deal with what I have." I like my hair though, it reminds me of my parents. It suits me much better than just black hair too, my original color.

Letting go of the strand of hair, she listened as she explained she wasn't spying, just sleeping in a tree and had woke up when she felt the heat from her fire. She nodded. "It's cool, sorry for waking you up. Why do you sleep in a tree? No place to stay? That makes two of us if you don't.." She rubbed the back of her head and looked around. "Kinda destroyed the place, didn't I? Well, Hope no one else was watching, otherwise I'm in big trouble probably.." She said as she bit her bottom lip.

“Don’t think that way, it’ll take time but you just need to keep working with them. I’ll even help them is you want.” Kerri smiled, hoping to help her. Kerri always loved helping people. It made her feel like she had purpose. She needed purpose in her life, if she didn’t have one, well she probably wouldn’t have a reason to live as sad as that was.

Kerri introduced herself, embarrassed still that she hadn’t done it before. “So, you are also another experiment? Heh, there seems to be a lot nowadays, you're the third one I've met. I'll just call you Kerri, if you don't mind.”

Kerri tilted her head to one side in a confused manner “Really? There’s a lot of others around here? I’ve never met another experiment…” she went silent for a few moments wondering if she’d ever meet them but then snapped back to reality when she heard Kasumi say she would just call her Kerri. “Thanks, I like Kerri better, it’s an actually name. Not a number or a label.”

"You're hair is pretty, and soft... I'm kinda envying it, but I don't think blond hair would fit me well, so I'll just deal with what I have." Kasumi said touching the piece of hair that had fallen in Kerris face when she’d bowed her head to introduce herself. Kerri resisted the urge to flinch back, she hoped Kasumi didn’t touch her face. The last thing she wanted as to absorb memories and powers. Especially the memories, they never faded away. But Kerri played it cool, and Kasumi didn’t touch her face at all. Thank god. “My hair isn’t really anything to envy,” Kerri said running her finger threw it, “It’s just long ‘cause I was grown in a tube along with me an never and it was never cut.” Kerri explained. “If you never cut your hair from the time you were born, im sure you’s would be just a long, maybe longer.”

"It's cool, sorry for waking you up. Why do you sleep in a tree? No place to stay? That makes two of us if you don't.."Kasumi rubbed the back of her head and looked around the area. "Kinda destroyed the place, didn't I? Well, Hope no one else was watching, otherwise I'm in big trouble probably.."

“Yeah, I have no home, nowhere to go. I stay on roof tops sometimes, other days on a bench in the park. I go where ever I can find a place to rest pretty much.” Kerri said. She looked around the area, she had to admit, it was pretty beat up. But she shrugged, she doubted anyone else had been watching her train. “I don’t think anyone else saw, well at least not anyone who care. I mean if they did, they probably would have shown themselves by now, right? So there no need to worry.” Kerri smiled reassuringly at Kasumi.
